Sikh is a religion that originated in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent around the end of the 15th century. Based on the spiritual teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru and the nine Sikh gurus that succeeded him. The Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, named the Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib as his successor, terminating the line of human Gurus and making the scripture the eternal, religious spiritual guide for Sikhs.

Sikh Temple also called Gurdwara. The word Gurdwara stands for “guru – dwara” which means through or by means of guru and can also be called “the gateway to guru”. A Sikh Temple always keeps its doors open for people of all religions and faiths. The objective is to find inner peace and unite with the Holy Spirit i.e. with god and the guru helps in this process of unison and achieving peace. All Sikh Temple have the holy book of Sikhs “Guru Granth Sahib Ji” placed in it which is the current guru of the Sikh religion.

Harmandir Sahib, Punjab

It is a star-shaped Sikh Temple that has been specially designed keeping in view the prevailing weather and altitude of the place.   According to the autobiographic account of the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, he meditated over this place in his previous birth. This shrine is regarded as an epitome of all the principles the Sikh religion believes in.

Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Bihar

Situated in Patna, Takht Sri Patna Sahib is one of the most important Sikh religious places in India. Patna is believed to be the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh and the placewhere he also spent many years of his life. The Gurudwara was built in the remembrance of Guru Gobind Singh by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1780. Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, was born in Patna, Bihar. He also spent his early years here before moving to Anandpur. Besides being the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, Patna was also honored by visits from Guru Nanak as well as Guru Tegh Bahadur.

Bangla Sahib

Situated in the heart of Delhi, Bangla Sahib is one of the imminent landmarks of the capital city. Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji stayed while on his visit to Delhi in 1664. He cured diseases like smallpox, chicken pox and cholera which were an epidemic those days with sacred water. That water now forms a “sarovar” which is present in the centre of this Sikh Temple people take a dip in it to remove all bodily and mental dirt. There is a museum in this Sikh Temple which depicts the great Sikh history.

Keshgarh Sahib

Known as Gurdwara Anandpur Sahib, this Sikh Temple is the main shrine of the holy city of Anandpur (the City of Bliss) Sahib. This city was founded by ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and is a home to many Sikh Temple. Keshgarh Sahib is famous and of great importance since it is also one of the five Takhats and a seat of authority for the Sikhs. The shrine is located in the center of the city which is around 95km north-west of Chandigarh. It was here that the Khalsa Panth was born, when the young Guru called for a special congregation on the Baisakhi day of 1699 with thousands of Sikhs in attendance. One can only imagine how large the area was around Sri Keshgarh Sahib then to accommodate the many thousands of Sikhs in attendance on that historic day.

Fatehgarh sahib

Fatehgarh Sahib is named after Fateh Singh, the 7 year old son of Guru Gobind Singh who was seized and buried alive along with his 9 year old brother Zoravar Singh, by the Mughal Army under the orders of commander Wazir Khan during the ongoing Muslim-Sikh war of early 18th century. The town experienced major historical events after the martyrdom of the sons in 1705, with repeated change of control between the Sikh and Muslim rulers.

Ber Sahib

Known as Ber Sahib  because of the Ber tree which was planted over here by the first Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Now this Ber tree has grown into a huge tree and the Gurdwara is situated in Kartarpur, Punjab. Guru ji stayed over this place for 14 yrs. He used to bathe in the river Kali Bein, also known as Kali Beri, and would meditate for hours. But one day he disappeared while having a bath and returned after 3 days. This was when the Guru Ji decided to begin teaching Sikhism.

Manikaran Sahib

The Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib is known for its lovely scenic beauty as it is situated in the mountains of Manali. Historically the Sikh Temple has enough significance as the first Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji is known to have first visited this place in 1574 along with his disciples Bhai Mardana and Bhai Bala. This place is considered as the first place where Guru Nanak Dev Ji meditated through his journey and he is also known to perform few miracles over here.

Data Bandi Chod Sahib

This Sikh Temple located in Gwalior, MP, known as Bandi Chod because it signifies the release of 52 Rajput rulers who were imprisoned in the Gwalior fort. The sixth Sikh guru, Guru Hargobind Singh Ji stayed in the Gwalior fort to pray for Jahangir’s health where he met these rulers and decided to help them to get free. Consisting of 6 storeys made up of entire marble and having doors made up of gold, this Sikh Temple was constructed in 1968 and Sant Baba Uttam Singh Ji was given the charge of its construction.

Anandpur Sahib

He lived in the Guru ka Mahal in the old quarter of the town.  Anandpur Sahib is a city in Rupnagar district, in the state of Punjab, India. Located near the Sutlej River, the city is one of the most sacred places in Sikhism, being the place where the last two Sikh Gurus lived and where Guru Gobind Singh Ji founded the Khalsa Panth in 1699.  The city is home to Keshgarh Sahib Gurdwara, one of the five Takhts in Sikhism.

• Pancakes – Pancake are fluffy light and only required simple ingredients that are easily available in kitchen in egg diet keto. For making the pancakes take a bowl add flour, baking powder and salt then crack some eggs and pour milk into it. Give it a good mix and slowly add melted butter while mixing. You can flavour up the pancake by adding chocolates or vanilla into it. Heat the pan and pour the batter accordingly. Cook both side 2-3 minutes and served with honey or chocolate syrup.

• Poached Eggs – Poached eggs looks beautiful but it’s difficult to make. Poaching and egg can be mastered by learning the temperature of water and timings also. To poach an egg you just have to boil the water and crack the egg into it and when the egg white part is harden stop the cooking process. Serve the poached eggs with bread and enjoy the meal. • Scrambled Eggs – Learning how to make scrambled eggs can be fun. With little ingredients you can make scrambled eggs in minutes. All you need 2-3 eggs, butter, milk and salt & pepper. Starting by mixing all the ingredients and gently pouring the batter on a heated pan. As the eggs started to cook gently break them into curdles and stir constantly for 3-4 minutes. Served hot with bread and veggies.

Coorg Cuisine

We heard lot about the famous pandi curry (pork curry) of coorg . And finally get a chance to eat it. I Mentioned before that our driver knows best places , so he took us to the best pandi curry serving restaurant in coorg. The place is located on the main road on the first floor opposite to Post office. Check out the timings and I suggest you.Local food served here like chicken curry,rice and rice roti’s, is really good. We took Kadambattu and chicken curry, Noolputtu and Pandi curry, Ghee rice and Passion fruit juice. They all tasted simply great….

Final Good Bye To South – days to remember

After exploring all the famous places we next day head towards Bangalore and from there we board our flight to Delhi .

Tips : 1 Plan at least 3 – 4 days of visit if you are planning this tour.

           2 Do advance booking of all the hotels because they get full.

            3 If you hired a driver Try to coordinate with him because he can be of great value.

             4 Don’t forget to check weather condition

             5 Don’t forget to shop famous sarees of mysore, spices and coffee of coorg .

Flavours Of Amritsar – The Food Capital Of Punjab

Punjabi food culture popularly known as north Indian cuisine in different parts of world is hard to ignore. Amritsar popularly known as the food capital of punjab and is famous for authentic flavors of Punjabi cuisines and their culture. Our journey in covering food adventure of Amritsar the food capital of punjab was short, so we were focusing only on the famous cuisines while traveling delhi to amritsar by road .

Breakfast at zhilmil karnal

As we leave early from Delhi  we were unable to stop at murthal which is famous for punjabi dhabha’s serving variety of tandoori paranthas . Our next favorite place to have breakfast is zhilmil dhabha in karnal . Although this place doesn’t have the kind of interiors compared to the likes of amrik Sukhdev  and Haveli in murthal , but still it offers a good variety of paranthas, pakoras and lassi is a must try.  #Ambience7/10#Service8/10#Taste9/10#PocketFriendly9/

As we reached Amritsar the food capital of punjab we went to multi level car parking because roaming in car for food journey is impossible. Then we went to our room get fresh and went  straight to golden temple. The Golden Temple is not only a central religious place   of  sikhs, but also a symbol of humanity brotherhood and equality. Langar is served  24 hrs a day and everybody irrespective of cast,creed or race are welcome to sit and  eat. The best part is Khada Prasad to me, every sikh religion place serve “wheat and desi ghee halwa” called Khada Prasad.

As the sun rises in Amritsar the food capital of punjab we do a quick walk around the temple by taking morning blessing and having a  economical coffee offered by Nescafe at The Golden Temple gates.  For breakfast we started with famous kulcha in amritsar at Bhai kulwant singh kuchawala .This place opens at 8:00 am and luckily we were before time. The menu here is limited to few kulcha’s . One serving plate comes with a tandoori baked kulcha bread and stuffing you can choose  while ordering, the crispy and crunchy of kulcha bread is awesome and the chole (chick pea) and onion chutney served along is the heart of the dish.   

Mine recommendation is alloo kulcha and paneer kulcha. Although all kulcha’s must try as they are famous kulcha corner amritsar punjab.

Next we went for a quick glance of Jaliawala Bagh which is converted in a beautiful memorial park, locals comes for morning walk and also yoga session were going on, and afterward we went towards market, Amritsar market is totally changed, the rickshaw pullers are not allowed in the market area near Golden Temple which makes the market less crowded and clean also. All the shops near Golden Temple are re-designed. After hours  of wandering in the market, we feel thirsty and what is better than a chilled glass of lassi. There were many small lassi vendors at the market  but I prefer Bhai Bean Singh Kulcha Wala Lassi, its near by Golden Temple their kulcha’s are not that great but the lassi is too awesome. Lassi served in a huge glass and the texture is so creamy and fresh, that you feel full  after drinking half glass.

Lunch at Kesar Da Dhaba

Its one of the oldest place in Amritsar the food capital of punjab, you will always find a waiting line because of such a huge popularity. The reaching route from Golden Temple to kesar is difficult and only rickshaw pullers can take you to the destinations. It is worth waiting at kesar because the food served is authentic. This place is the literal definition of

“Food Heaven” . We ordered parantha thali which comes with two lacha parantha, dal makhni, chole, curd,and salad an perfect mixture of authentic punjabi thali. The quantity of desi ghee in whole thali was huge making every serving so heavy and filling.

The famous Dal Makhani  of kesar which is prepared in 24 hours is  perfect.Every item in their menu is worth try. Best part is I surprisingly love is their lassi. The lassi was so good that it  reminds me Delhi cant Aggarwal lassi wala.

Next we head to the wagha border and after the beautiful ceremony we ride back to Delhi. It was a beautiful journey  where I got a chance to explore authentic punjabi cuisines of Amritsar . I feel so blessed to be a part of food journey.
